Building Meaningful Connections: Kambell's Excitement in Mentoring Londyn

Kambell is a Junior at Purdue University studying Biomedical Health Sciences.

As I sit in class, I begin to count down the hours until I get to go to LUM. Getting to take an hour out of my week to help others is something I really look forward to. When I walk in and see the excitement on the children's faces, it is really special. I often find myself sad when it is time to leave.

One moment that is really special to me is seeing how more comfortable the children get around you. Even if I am not directly paired up with the student, I still find them talking and opening up to me more and more.

When I first started the program last year, I could tell the students were nervous and shy. However, the first time I went to LUM this year, after the long summer break, I had multiple students run up and hug me. The fear of the children not remembering me and having to start all again swiftly went away.

The excitement they had to see me made me feel really happy, and I am very grateful to be able to spend time with these amazing kids. I am very excited to continue mentoring these children, and I cannot wait to make many more memories.
